چکیده
Essential hypertension is an important problem in the office practice of medicine. Twenty to 25 per cent of the adults in the United States are affected.1 This disease has serious implications in cardiac, cerebrovas cular and renal degeneration. According to insurance statistics, the height of the blood pressure may be correlated with life expectancy. Yet, prior to the past decade, treatment of hypertension was almost primitive. Ten years ago mild to moderate cases were treated with dietary changes, weight loss, rest and mild sedatives. A few drugs were employed, such as theophylline, nitrites, thiocyanates and veratrum preparations. These drugs were effective for only short periods or at doses which were toxic. The largest proportion of these cases was helped little and the disease would continue to progress. Severe cases were treated with extreme restriction in dietary salt and protein (rice diet) or sympathetic nervous system surgery.

Fixed combination lisinopril plus hydro-chlorothiazide in the treatment of essential arterial hypertension: an opened, multi-centre, prospective clinical trial.
The aim of this trial was to examine the efficacy and safety of antihypertensive fixed combination lisinopril plus hydrochlorothiazide (Lopril H, Bosnalijek dd) in the treatment of essential arterial hypertension. In our trial we included 297 patients, aged 54.65+/-9.6 years, with treated or untreated hypertension and with high risk of cardiac events, in an opened trial of therapy based on lisi...
متن کاملQuantitative determination of three angiotensin-II-receptor antagonists in presence of Hydrochlorothiazide by RP-HPLC in their tablets preparations
Losartan potassium, Valsartan , Telmisartan and Irbesartan are angiotensin-II-receptor antagonists (ARA II) group which used in treatment of hypertension alone or in combination with other drugs mainly Hydrochlorothiazide. RP- HPLC method was developed for the assay of three angiotensin-II-receptor antagonists (ARA-IIs) in presence of Hydrochlorothiazide. The method was performed by reversed ph...

متن کاملIncreased collagen synthesis in blood vessels of hypertensive rats and its reversal by antihypertensive agents.
Collagen synthesis is increased in the aortas, mesenteric arteries, and to a lesser extent, in the hearts of rats either made hypertensive with desoxycorticosterone acetate-salt or that are spontaneously hypertensive. Several markers of collagen biosynthesis were shown to be increased, including prolyl hydroxylase (EC 1.14.11.2; proline, 2-oxoglutarate dioxygenase), prolyl hydroxylase-related a...
متن کاملPatient acceptance of guanethidine as therapy for mild to moderate hypertension. A comparison with reserpine.
The relative benefits and risks of reserpine and guanethidine were compared in patients with thiazide-treated mild to moderate hypertension (diastolic pressure 95-115 mm Hg). Forty-nine ambulant patients )30 men, 19 women) were treated throughout the study with hydrochlorothiazide, 50 mg/day. In this double blind crossover study each drug was added in graded increments until a predetermined the...
